Your visit

The Comfort Menu at Monaco Dentistry.

A list of things you choose from, not a script we run at you. Everything here is included, and you can ask for any of it at any point.

Choose what you need

What is on the menu.

Comfort is not a nicety at Monaco Dentistry, it is part of the treatment. How an appointment feels is what decides whether you come back for the next one. So we keep a comfort menu, and it is exactly that: a list of things you choose from, not a script we run at you. Ask for any of it, at any point, including after we have started.

None of it is decoration. Being cold makes you tense, noise is what most people actually dread, and having somewhere else to put your attention is the single most effective thing we can offer an anxious patient. These are small things that change how an appointment feels, which is what decides whether you come back for the next one.

Want something that is not on the list? Call (604) 953-9887 and ask. The answer is usually yes.

Book an appointment
  • Neck pillow

A supportive pillow for the back of your neck, because most of the ache people report after a long appointment is not from the dentistry; it is from holding a head still without support. Ask at any point, including halfway through.

  • Warm blanket

Treatment rooms run cool, and being cold makes you tense, which makes everything else worse. A warm blanket is offered as standard rather than on request.

  • Netflix

Every treatment room has a screen. Bring your own account, pick something you have already seen, and watch it through the appointment. Having somewhere else to put your attention is one of the most effective things we can offer anxious patients.

  • Noise-cancelling headphones

For many people the sound is the hardest part, not the sensation. Noise-cancelling headphones remove the handpiece and the suction almost entirely. Bring your own music or podcast, or use ours.

  • Stress balls, fidget toys and anxiety-relief gadgets

Something to hold and squeeze gives nervous energy a place to go, and it works far better than being told to relax. A small basket of options sits in every room, for adults as much as for children.

  • Closed operatories

Our treatment rooms are fully enclosed, not bays divided by a partition. Nobody overhears your conversation, nobody walks past mid-treatment, and what you discuss with Dr. Sohi stays between you, which matters most to the patients who find it hardest to be here.

  • Chargers

Phone chargers in every room, for the common cables. A dying battery is a small thing, but it is one less thing to think about while you are in the chair.

  • Cooling neck fan

A personal fan for the back of the neck. Feeling too warm is a common trigger for the light-headedness patients describe during longer appointments, and it is easily solved.

Not on the menu, because it is not optional

Four things you get either way.

A stop signal that is honoured

We agree a hand signal before we start. Raise it and treatment stops immediately. Not at a convenient moment, immediately. It is honoured every time, and using it costs you nothing.

Sedation whenever you want it

Nitrous oxide takes the edge off within minutes and has worn off before you leave. Oral sedation goes deeper for longer or surgical work. Both are available right across the treatment menu, from a cleaning upwards.

Appointments that are not rushed

Time is booked for the person, not the procedure. If you need to sit up, take a break, or stop and come back another day, that is a normal thing to do here.

A visit with no treatment at all

You are welcome to come in just to see the practice, meet the team and sit in the chair without anything happening. For some patients that is the whole first appointment, and it is time well spent.

Privacy

Closed rooms, not curtained bays.

Every treatment room at Monaco Dentistry is fully enclosed with a door that shuts. Nobody in the next room hears your conversation, nobody walks past mid-treatment, and what you discuss with Dr. Sohi stays between the two of you.

It matters most to the patients who find it hardest to be here: the ones who would rather not have a waiting room listening while they explain how long it has been. There is also room for someone to sit with you, which is not true of a partitioned bay.

  • A door that closes, in every room
  • Space for a partner, friend or parent
  • A screen and headphones in each room
  • Consultations held sitting up, fully dressed

Patient stories

From people who used to avoid this.

The thing we hear most often is about the freezing.

“I had not seen a dentist in six years because of one bad experience. Dr. Sohi never made me feel bad about it. She made a plan and worked through it with me. The freezing genuinely did not hurt, which I did not think was possible.”
Susan M. · White Rock
“Booked one checkup for myself and ended up moving the whole family across. Everything is explained, nothing is pushed, and the office is calmer than any dental practice I have been in.”
Daniel K. · South Surrey
“I wanted my front teeth improved without it being obvious that I had anything done. That is exactly what I got, and being able to speak Punjabi with the team made the whole thing easier for my mother too.”
Priya S. · Surrey

Questions

About comfort, anxiety and what to expect.

Do I have to ask for these, or are they offered?

Both. A blanket and the stop signal are offered as standard at the start of every appointment. The rest is a menu, so ask for anything on it at any point, including halfway through, and including things you did not think you would want.

Is there a charge for any of it?

No. Everything on the comfort menu is included. Sedation is a clinical service and is quoted on your written estimate like any other treatment, but nothing on this page is billed.

I have had a bad experience at a dentist before. What should I do?

Tell us when you book, not when you arrive. It changes how we plan the appointment, how much time we allow, and what we suggest. It is the most ordinary request we get, and there is no version of it that will surprise us.

Can I bring somebody with me?

Yes. Our treatment rooms are fully enclosed, so there is room for a partner, a friend or a parent to sit with you throughout. For children we encourage it.

Will I be judged for how long it has been since my last visit?

No, and this is worth saying plainly. Dr. Sohi treats a great many people who avoided dental care for years. The gap is information about what to check, not something to apologise for.
